On-site Meter Control

Within the scope of the Electricity Market Consumer Services Regulation of May 30, 2018, the removal of the permission of EDAS to make additional accruals for meters that have completed 10 years in the field has led EDAS to control the meters in the field more strictly and practically.

In fact, the best course of action is for electricity distribution companies to conduct on-site functional and measurement checks to prevent unnecessary meter disassembly in cases of malfunctions, leaks, incorrect connections, or complaints about insufficient or excessive consumption. All electronic meter brands in use in our country have their own unique faults, weaknesses, and reading variations, making field inspections difficult. Except for existing personnel and initiative, these checks are extremely difficult to perform quickly in the field, and due to the scarcity of trained specialists, they are costly. Attempts have been made to address this problem with existing international technologies, but unfortunately, these efforts have been unsuccessful due to the high cost of control equipment, its lack of ergonomics, and its lack of integration with Edaş systems. Failure to perform these checks results in significant medium and long-term losses for Edaş and, consequently, for our country in the fight against loss, leakage, and malfunctions. Based on domestic research and analysis, the electricity meter accuracy and loss/leakage analyzer, built entirely with domestic and national resources, can read the internal information of all these brands in a practical manner in as little as 60 seconds. The system warns of any connection errors, and if necessary, accuracy testing can be performed. Thanks to interpretation algorithms that bypass personnel initiative, the program automatically categorizes faults, leaks, and connection errors. Following this stage, the reading data reflecting the meter status is automatically interpreted and work orders are generated. Based on these interpretations, the resulting statistics are analyzed by more experienced specialists in the background to identify potential new error scenarios. All scenarios encountered in various regions of Türkiye provide data for the next version of the device, and work continues to be carried out remotely to update the device, making it even more effective in combating customer complaints, malfunctions, connection errors, and loss/leakage.
